Seems to. I played it first with P4 2.66 and P4 3.0E, 2 gigs ram and
6800GT, then built the A64 X2 4800+ with 2 gigs and that same 6800GT. No
more stuttering, slowdowns or other hiccups. Of course now HL2 Source
engine detects the 64 bit OS and runs in 64 bit mode.

What OS are you running these days McG? I just upgraded my laptop to
Vista Home Premium, but unfortunately it's the 32-bit not 64-bit version
(although the laptop does have an X2 processor).
I keep reading that there are still 64-bit driver issues.

There are still driver issues galore for Vista in general. Oh, XP x64?
Most hardware manufacturers have 64 bit drivers for stuff now. There are
some things that don't, and x64 won't load a 32 bit driver at all. I run XP
Pro x64 exclusively now. I'm even thinking about formatting the partition
with XP Pro 32 bit. Or at least resizing that partition way down and giving
the space to the 64 bit partition.
FOr me, x64 has been far more stable, and there are a few things that do
better in 64 bit code. The one thing that doesn't work right at all, nor
does it look like it ever will, is SLI/Crossfire with multiple displays.
I have a little laptop with XP Home preinstalled on it. I'll consider Vista
Ultimate 64 bit somewhere along the way.

Funny, I don't remember Valve ever saying that no-one's allowed to play any
games except HL2.
*goes off to play Neverwinter Nights*

Like, say, the pre-Steam version of Half-Life?
Diablo II... Rome Total War... Neverwinter Nights... Quake... Pharaoh... Civ
3... Age of Empires... FEAR... haven't even loaded up HL2 in months.

So why are you defending Valve/STEAM?
Please if we are at the same side don't target me!

No you don't
You are a SLAVE but I guess admitting that would make you go into
depression so your brain fools you to think you are FREE but you are
NOT, you are a maggot IMPRISONED in a PRISON, one you don't even see
and controlled by a Master (Valve) that tell you what to do!
Who saw Grandpa all Mister "defend my rights/privacy" becoming one
more SHEEP/Submissive Nothing like so many other STEAM SLAVES... I
really hope you have a short memory cause otherwise how could you
justify the change?
I say Weakness... but everyone is entitle to one, just don't try and
pretend otherwise or think others are like you...

I never did.
I just figure that if you hate Steam so much, ignore it, since there's
plenty of games out there that don't and *won't* ever use it.
Even the new games that *are* on Steam, still have Steam-free versions in
stores.
